Tree Harvesters an Introduction to the Automated Tree Fallers

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

A Tree Harvester is used to fall trees, de-branch them and then cut them into predetermined lengths all in the blink of an eye or close to it anyways. Tree harvesters can be as simple as adding a tree harvester head onto an existing ordinary farm tractor which will be able to cut only smaller trees or they can be specialty heavy equipment on tracks that can tackle larger trees and get into areas that tractors could not because of their tire limitations.

I have attached a video for you to see the awesome de-limbing power of a tree harvester. Now try doing that with your chainsaw.

If you are interested in reading more about tree harvesters the article titled introduction to tree harvesters was written by a veteran logger who has been in the logging industry for over 30 years and operated everything from a chainsaw to a tree harvester. When I was fresh out of high school I had the pleasure of working next to him while I earned some extra cash before I moved to the big city. At the time he operated a front end loader and a sea booming boat (a small version of a tug boat used to coral the logs into a log boom). I still remember fondly putting on those cork boots and running jumping off the booming boat onto the various logs. He now is the editor of Chainsaw-advice.org a web resource site for people looking for information on chainsaw parts and maintenance advice such as such as chainsaw sharpening.
